The Cyclone 61’s
was developed as the result of a
discussion with a hockey mom
interested in enhancing her hockey
playing experience by improving her
skills. After discussing this idea
with several other women hockey
players, and
noting the rapid growth of
women’s hockey, the Cyclone 61’s
were formed. This hockey mom, born in
1961 is the inspiration behind the
program.
The Cyclone 61’s is a enjoyable developmental
program geared toward C1, C2 & C3 level
women hockey
players. The training practices
will provide instruction on proper
mechanics with attention on
repetition to build muscle memory
and enhance learning. The goal of
this program is to elevate the
hockey playing experience by
focusing on improving the following
basic skills.
Hockey stops
Turns and
Crossovers
Transitioning

to boost on-ice training. Dry-land
training will also
involve weekly hockey homework
handouts, to further support on ice
learning. The program consists of
over
40 hours of on-ice and off-ice
training. The Cyclone 61’s will also
have social gatherings; an overnight
sleepover in the Schwan Dormitory to
promote the fun and enjoyment that
all hockey players experience.
